Celebrating Culture: Honouring Tradition Through Dance and Story
Honouring Tradition Through Dance and Story
At Djinda Health, we are proud to support and celebrate Aboriginal culture — not only as part of our organisational values but as a living, breathing practice shared by members of our own team and community.
During NAIDOC Week, one of our very own, Dane, was invited to perform a cultural dance at a major tech company in Perth. This event wasn’t just another performance — it marked a deeply personal and powerful milestone: it was the first time Dane danced alongside his two sons and his nephew. A truly unforgettable moment.
“I used to dance with the Doorum Dance Group, travelling to schools and businesses to share cultural dances and Dreamtime stories,” Dane explains. “These photos were taken when we were invited to perform at a tech company during NAIDOC Week. It was a special moment — dancing with my two boys and my nephew for the first time.”
The photos capture more than movement — they tell a story of continuity, of identity passed down through generations. With ochre-painted bodies, traditional attire, and gum leaves in hand, Dane and the young performers brought ancient traditions into the present day, connecting audience members with the Dreaming and the richness of Aboriginal culture.
Why It Matters
These performances are more than celebration — they’re education. By showcasing cultural dance and storytelling in modern workplaces, schools, and public spaces, we foster respect, understanding, and reconciliation.
At Djinda Health, we understand the importance of cultural identity and community connection. We believe that holistic health includes cultural well-being, and we’re proud to support initiatives that elevate Aboriginal voices and traditions.
A Living Culture
Culture is not confined to books or museums — it lives in the stories we tell, the songs we sing, and the dances we perform. It lives in the connection between a father and his children as they pass on knowledge, pride, and identity.
As we reflect on NAIDOC Week and what it means to "Keep the Fire Burning," we thank Dane and his family for sharing this powerful moment with us — and for reminding us that culture is a living flame that grows stronger when it’s shared.
Respirator Fit Testing Blog
Confused about which respirator to test — or how we keep things hygienic? Discover the facts and your options in this guide from Djinda Health, your Perth fit testing experts.
Confidence, Compliance & Cleanliness: What You Need to Know About Respirator Fit Testing
When it comes to workplace safety, respirator fit testing is more than just a box to tick. Whether your staff use disposable P2/N95 masks or reusable half-face / full-face respirators, understanding the correct testing process — and the hygiene practices behind it — is essential for compliance and peace of mind.
At Djinda Health in Riverton, WA, we work with companies across greater Perth and Australia to deliver accurate, standards-compliant fit testing, while also prioritising staff comfort and safety.
Here’s what you and your team need to know.
Disposable vs Reusable Respirators: What’s the Difference?
There are two main types of respirators used in Australian workplaces:
1. Disposable Respirators (e.g. P2 or N95 masks)
Made from lightweight, paper-like materials
Cover the nose and mouth
Intended for single use only
Commonly used in healthcare, mining, and construction
2. Reusable Respirators (Half-face or Full-face)
Made from durable silicone or rubber materials
Provide a full seal over the nose and mouth, or entire face
Used in high-risk settings: chemical, silica, gas or dust exposure
Designed for repeated use with proper cleaning and filter changes
Popular models include 3M full-face respirators
Why Fit Testing Must Match the Exact Mask Used at Work
Australian Standards (AS/NZS 1715:2009) require that fit testing be done using the exact make and model of respirator the worker will use in the field. This is critical for both safety and legal compliance.
Even small differences between masks — such as shape, size, or sealing surface — can drastically affect fit.
Bottom line: A correct fit on one mask does not guarantee a fit on another.
Testing staff on a cheaper disposable mask does not qualify as a valid result for reusable respirators.
Doing so would be considered non-compliant and could expose employers to liability if a worker is not properly protected in a hazardous environment.
What About Hygiene During Fit Testing?
At Djinda Health, we follow strict infection control protocols — both for disposable and reusable respirators.
For Disposable Masks (P2/N95):
A new, unused mask is used for each person tested
This ensures both hygiene and compliance with manufacturer specifications
For Reusable Respirators:
Each unit is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after every individual use
We follow 3M’s cleaning guidelines and hospital-grade disinfection methods
All face seals, valves, and adaptors are visually inspected between uses
Individual adaptors and sampling tubes are assigned per person
We’re also happy to explain these cleaning steps at the time of testing — transparency matters to us.
Prefer a New Mask? We Offer Reusable Respirators for Purchase
We understand that some staff may feel more comfortable using a brand-new respirator during testing — especially when testing reusable full-face or half-face masks.
We offer two flexible options:
Option 1: Supply Your Own Mask
Team members can bring their own reusable respirator compatible with quantitative fit testing.
Option 2: Purchase a New Mask Through Us
With notice, we can supply a brand-new, unopened reusable respirator for individual use.
Your staff will be fit tested on the same model they’ll wear at work
They’ll keep the respirator after testing for ongoing use
This option increases session cost by the price of the selected mask
Reusable respirators typically range from $400 to $1000+, depending on model and brand. We’re happy to recommend suitable options based on your industry requirements.

It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
