Fit Testing FAQ
Everything You Need to Know About Respirator Fit Testing at Djinda Health
1. What types of respirators do you fit test?
At Djinda Health, we provide quantitative fit testing for all major respirator types, including:
Disposable P2/N95 masks (single-use, nose and mouth coverage)
Reusable half-face respirators
Reusable full-face respirators (e.g. 3M full-face models)
2. Do you test disposable masks like P2 or N95?
Yes, absolutely. We perform quantitative fit testing on disposable P2 and N95 masks that are commonly used in healthcare, construction, mining, and other industries.
To ensure best practice:
Each participant is tested using a new, single-use disposable mask
Masks are not reused between clients
We follow manufacturer specifications to ensure the correct model and size is tested
This ensures both compliance and high hygiene standards for disposable respirator testing.
3. Can staff be tested using a different mask type to save costs?
No — to comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 1715:2009) and Work Health & Safety regulations, fit testing must be done using the exact make, model, and type of respirator the worker will use in the workplace.
For example:
If your team uses reusable full-face respirators, testing on a P2 disposable mask is not valid. The seal, size, and fit characteristics differ significantly between styles.
A proper fit on one mask does not guarantee a safe fit on another. Testing on the wrong mask type may render the result non-compliant and expose employers to WHS risk.
4. How do you ensure hygiene when testing respirators?
For disposable masks (P2/N95):
A new mask is used for every individual
No mask is ever reused between clients
All packaging is opened in front of the participant during testing
For reusable respirators (half-face and full-face):
Disinfected with hospital-grade solution after every test
All contact points (seals, valves, fittings) are cleaned
Each mask is visually inspected for cleanliness and function
Individual adaptors/tubes are used per person, where applicable
Our staff follow strict PPE and hand hygiene protocols throughout testing
We are happy to walk staff through our hygiene procedures onsite for peace of mind.
5. Can staff bring their own respirators for testing?
Yes. Staff are welcome to bring their own respirators for fit testing, provided they are compatible with quantitative testing (i.e., can be connected to our testing equipment).
Please ensure the respirators are:
Clean and in good condition
The exact model intended for workplace use
6. Can Djinda Health supply new respirators for testing that staff can keep?
Yes. With sufficient notice, we can supply brand-new reusable respirators for individual team members.
With this option:
Each participant is tested using a new, unopened mask
The respirator becomes their personal unit for ongoing use
This provides maximum reassurance around hygiene and compliance
Cost: This option adds the cost of the selected respirator to the testing fee. reusable respirators range in price depending on the brand and features. We can help select the best model for your team’s needs.
7. What’s the best reusable respirator fit testing option for your workforce?

Use our sterilised reusable masks (cost-effective and compliant)
Bring your own compatible masks
